Accommodation
Description
Harbour Hideaway situated in St.Monans located just over 12 miles south of St Andrews, St Monans is the smallest of the East Neuk fishing ports. Here you’ll find an attractive village with many charming 17th and 18th century pantiled houses that crowd the harbourside. The property comfortable sleeps 6 with 3 double bedrooms, large open plan kitchen and dining area, two bathrooms, lounge and a garden/courtyard with garden furniture.
Whilst staying in St.Monans you will be just a short walk from joining the Fife Coastal Path taking you in one direction towards Pittenweem and Anstruther or in the other towards Elie.
Although the smallest of the East Neuk fishng ports there is still some exploring to do. Fishing and salt production were once the main industries here, and the old saltpans can still be seen, along with a reconstructed stone windmill that was used to pump sea water up to them.
Almost on the foreshore, there is a beautiful little church, built originally in the 14th century by David II in gratitude for having survived a shipwreck on the coast nearby. It was restored in the early 19th century and now serves as the local parish church.
St Monans lies directly on the Fife Coastal Path, so is very popular with walkers. The remains of Newark Castle, with its circular beehive dovecot are further along the coastal path to the west of the village.

Cul Na Shee – Gaelic for “nook of peace” – is a beautifully finished double upper conversion within a traditional detached house, less than two minutes’ walk from St Monans harbour and the waterfront. Tucked back from East Street with its own private entrance and fully enclosed garden, it feels calm and tucked away, yet you’re right in the heart of this characterful East Neuk village. Wi-Fi is provided and one small dog is welcome (terms and supplement apply), with on-street parking available nearby.
A private path and gate lead to the main door and internal staircase up to the first floor, where a welcoming reception hall links the living spaces. The gorgeous lounge has twin front windows that flood the room with light, wooden flooring and a traditional fireplace (decorative), with a leather sofa, accent chairs, Smart TV, Sonos speakers and carefully chosen local artwork creating a restful, grown-up coastal feel. Semi open-plan to this is the contemporary dining kitchen, fitted with sleek units, co-ordinating worktops, concealed lighting, electric hob, eye-level oven and grill, integrated fridge, microwave, wine rack, kettle and toaster, plus a stylish dining table with benches. A discreet utility cupboard off the hall houses the washing machine, tumble dryer and countertop freezer. The elegant first-floor bathroom combines classic looks with modern comfort, offering a bath with overhead shower, WC, vanity basin and chrome heated towel rail.
Upstairs, three inviting bedrooms all face the front. The master has a king-size bed, bedside tables, drawer storage and hanging space; the second double has a full-size bed, wardrobe with drawers and inbuilt bookcase; and the third, a cosy smaller double (4ft), works well for a single adult, teen or snug double, with wardrobe, desk and chair. A stunning shower room on this level features a generous enclosure with rainfall and handheld shower, vanity basin, WC and heated towel rail.
Outside, the fully enclosed side/rear garden is mainly paved with a raised planted border and bistro table with four chairs – a peaceful spot to enjoy coffee, an evening drink or a quiet read after coastal walks, sea swims or days exploring nearby Anstruther, Crail and St Andrews. -
Recently extended in July 2025, this architect designed seafront home feels like a special family hideaway. Perched on a crag with sweeping views over the Firth of Forth and St Monans historic church, it is the kind of place where mornings with a coffee and evenings watching the tide become part of everyday life.
The front door opens to a welcoming reception hall and a ground floor sea facing bedroom with an en suite, ideal for visiting grandparents or a quiet guest room. A short staircase with contemporary steel balustrade leads up to the main living areas, giving the house a cosy layered feel.
On the first floor the kitchen is the heart of the home: a luxurious fully equipped space with a new butcher’s block perfect for family cooking and baking. The adjacent dining room, created in the new extension, has stunning sea views and folding doors that open to the decking, great for family meals that move outdoors in summer.
Also on the first floor the master bedroom enjoys the same sea views and opens directly onto the side decking through folding doors, with its own contemporary en suite for extra convenience. A comfortable twin bedroom at the rear is perfect for children, with plenty of storage and space for play. The fully tiled family bathroom has a bath and overhead shower for relaxed mornings.
A mezzanine chill out space, accessed by a fixed ladder, offers a quiet nook for reading or a teenage hangout, while seven steps up lead to a bright lounge with a Juliet balcony and breathtaking panoramic views, a lovely spot for family movie nights or watching the sunset together.
Outside provides lots of safe low maintenance space for family life: side and front patios for outdoor dining, a decking area that overlooks St Monans church, a large rockery and an upper garden area. A back gate opens directly onto the Fife Coastal Path, making beach walks and coastal adventures effortless for the whole family.
Practical touches include a utility and storage cupboard with washer and dryer, fitted wardrobes, wifi throughout, and private parking for up to four cars with two spaces at the front and two at the rear. This move in ready home is perfect for families seeking a comfortable coastal base where everyday life feels a little bit special.
